At the age of forty, Charles Johnson III was prematurely grey with a personality to match. He lacked any charisma, style or presence but was chosen as a candidate for the Conservative Party for Johnsonville, just because of his family name. His only saving grace was that he married Sara, the loveliest girl in the county. The Johnson's campaign agent was Peter "Fixit" Coles, a man with a reputation for getting results. He tried to convince his stubborn client that he needed to change his image, to be remoulded into a baby-kissing, bullshitting, slick-dressing politician, if he had a hope of winning the 1986 election. Charles refused, with a reputation for honesty, he naively believed people would vote for him based on his policies.

When the opinion polls showed Charles trailing by thirty-two percent, Coles wrote off any chances of success short of a miracle. The answer to his prayers came as a birthday present, a video camera, from Sara to Charles. The latest hand held model used a VHS video straight from camera to player and he used it to film his wife and two teenage children, compiling a dreary catalogue of family home movies. However, Charles and Sara discovered that this innocent gift enabled them to spice up their sex life, as they produced their own 'blue movie'. When it became mixed up with a rental video and returned to the local store, Charles received more exposure than he had ever wanted. Knowing that his naked body shot from every angle, in various compromising positions, was circulating around the town, Charles took drastic action to recover the film, resulting in hilarious consequences.
